FURNITURE DESIGN WAS AN ENJOYABLE PART OF MY ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES. THIS PROJECT'S OBJECTIVE WAS TO DESIGN A FULLY FUNCTIONING, COLLAPSIBLE, FULL-SIZE CHAIR. SINCE I HAVE ALWAYS VALUED MULTI-FUNCTIONAL AND MOST SIMPLISTIC SOLUTIONS, I HAVE TRIED TO MARRY FORM AND FUNCTION IN EVERY DETAIL. THIS CHAIR HAS NO HARDWARE, NO METAL PARTS OR GLUE. IT WORKS BY SIMPLE INTERLOCKING AND TENSILE METHODS: TRADITIONAL TOUNGUE-AND-GROOVE WOOD CONNECTIONS AND (3,400 FEET) OF TIGHTLY WRAPPED SISAL TWINE THAT SERVED AS BINDING ELEMENT AND ALSO PROVIDED A COMFORTABLE AND WEATHER-RESISTANT SEATING SURFACE. I CHOSE MARINE-GRADE OKOUME 4-PLY PLYWOOD, LIGHTWEIGHT AND DURABLE, THAT MADE TAKING IT APART AND STACKING IT AN EASY TASK. |
